Ambassadors

To give ALS a bigger spot on the map , several ambassadors are selflessly committed to Tour du ALS. Together with our ambassadors, we hope to eventually get ALS off the maps. They selflessly use their reputation and social network for Tour du ALS.
Their contribution has yielded a lot of hope for the special event on Mont Ventoux in recent years. We are therefore very grateful to our ambassadors for their efforts!

Meet our ambassadors:

Thomas Acda, comedian, actor and singer.

If my presence or name can help raise awareness to ALS, I am happy to do so.
For me this is a small effort, with hopefully a lot of impact. Even though there are 'only' 1,500 people who suffer from ALS, it’s still 1,500 too many.

On September 11th Thomas Acda will participate again with Tour du ALS in Team Marieke.
Sponsor Thomas for his fight against ALS!

Loek Peters, actor

I met Tim van den Berg just before he was diagnosed with ALS. Years ago, Tim and the heart-warming reaction of his colleagues helped me with their events for the ALS Netherlands Foundation. When Tim passed away in August 2017, they did not give up. A year later they participated in the Tour du ALS and I went along. It is wonderful to see how this terrible disease connects people. I was especially touched by the amount of joie de vivre and militancy, despite the hopelessness of the disease.
That is exactly what motivates me to do even more for the ALS Foundation.

Servais Knaven, former professional cyclist and sports director of the British team Sky since 2011.

I have given a big part of my heart to the ALS Netherlands Foundation. It is terrible that still no cause has been found for this merciless disease. I would like to do my bit to make this disease more known and to generate more funds for scientific research. My passion is cycling and I am therefore happy to be able to  work as an ambassador for the Tour du ALS.

Erik Dekker, former professional cyclist and sports director.

As a sportsman, I hate that ALS patients' muscles are increasingly losing out and that they are ultimately trapped in their own body. That is why, as an ambassador of Tour du ALS, I want to raise awareness of this disease and help kick ALS out of the world.

My father died of ALS in 2004. After his death, we participated in Tour du ALS with our family and a large group of friends. I myself have climbed Mont Ventoux three times and it has been one of the most intense days of my life. The images of ALS patients in a recumbent bicycle, pushed by the people they love most, are still on my mind.

It is an experience that takes strength, but above all gives a lot of strength. You have the same goal together, which is to collect money to better combat this merciless disease. Moreover, it feels very familiar to embark on such an adventure. Most people there understand what it feels like being confronted with ALS.

 Sef Vergoossen

After my career as a football coach, I have more time now to work for others.
Fortunately, I can still make a difference for people who can no longer do that.
That is why I would like to participate in Tour du ALS, to raise money for the ALS Foundation. Money that is urgently needed for research that will lead to treatment and to find medicines to combat this terrible disease. Everyone has the task to bring ALS to the attention of friends, acquaintances and relations. Only if we all put in effort we can achieve our goal. I'm in, so don't leave me standing here... Together we’ll kick ALS out of the world!
